i mean...it DOES say on the back 'DO NOT OPEN incase of electric shock' or something along those lines, with a really big lightening/electric bolt on it. Yet for some reason, im exploring all avenues to a quick and shocking death with this annoying adaptor.

the mains cable, with the rubber connector ( shaped like a horizontal ' 8 ' , not like the connectors found on computer/printer cables - when connected into the back of the AC Adaptor (with the two pins) does nothing, unless I apply extreme force, bend the rubber connecter about, and then - voila , the light on the LCD of my camcorder turns on and if im lucky STAYS on and i have to HOLD the connector in position for power to go into the camcorder (and power the battery with it). If i let go, the power cuts off.

Its too much hassle doing this, but clearly its not 'DEAD'- im guessing its faulty, but not 'finished'.

SHOULD I break it open and dabble with the inside of it

  1. You can get a replacement on eBay for less than $20, so what have you got to lose?  If it all goes horribly wrong you won't have to pay any more life insurance premiums!  FWIW, I'd use a continuity tester on the mains lead first - it's a real pain when you  smash something to pieces, only to discover it was the other bit that was faulty (and easily fixed).

  2. I would recommend not.  These things don't have many user serviceable parts inside.

I would take it to a Sony Service center or just buy a new one.

    Not worth the aggravation.
