OK, I have a mobile home, and it is a 2001 model, so fairly new. It came with central heat and air. we had it moved a year and a half ago, and the air conditioner quit working. So I called a place, and they came out and said it needed recharged, and that one of the tubes was broke. so he welded (?) the tubes, and recharged it, and said it was fixed. It worked all of last summer really good, the heat worked all winter. When we tried it this summer, it doesn't work AGAIN!!! The a-coil tries to freeze up, it starts ou, the air is cool, but then the coil inside the house tries to freeze, and it gets hot. The blower and everything else works good, it just doesn't cool right. could it need recharged again so soon???? What is going on?

  1. You still have a leak somewhere probably in the area it was welded or could be one of the connections has a bad o ring when they reconnected it after your move you need to have the system leak checked repaired and recharged have them make sure to add oil to the system if any was lost.

  2. If your airflow is good until it starts to freeze it could be low on refrigerant. A service tech can leak check it and fix it. You might be able to see if the inside coil is dirty. Check the side from which the air flows against. Not the outflow side. Filter is clean? It is hard to look inside the a-coil. Sometimes you can lay underneath and use a flashlight to see. Not easy to clean. May need a service call to clean.

  3. If it is freezing the coils there are several possibilities. The first most probable when a unit freezes is air flow. Is the filter clean and allowing air to flow easily? Are the blades on the blower clogged? Are the coils obstructed?  Airflow is the most important attribute for a well condition air area. When a unit is under charged or low on freon the coil will usually only freeze half of the coil and all the way back to the condenser. When one is over charge and or has low airflow it will usually freezes the entire coil and line set back to the condenser. A quick check of the large copper pipe at the condensing unit can give you an idea of freon level in unit (if no gauges are avail). First let unit unthaw and set for awhile till reaching atmospheric temp. Turn unit on and wait 15-20 minutes, large line should be cold to touch and sweating, if it is not then it is possibly low on freon. If it is then for sure check for airflow problems. Hope this helps and God bless
