He advised me that I was not getting enough circulation. He said to get a diffrent air filter and I did but it keeps freezing. It there something else I can check? Is there another filter inside of my unit that I can check? I turn it off, wait about 5 minutes and turn it back on and it works fine but it sucks comming home to a hot house. HELP!!!

  1. if your lil gills or whatever they're called (the thin aluminum strips inside your a/c) are pressed down or smooshed in some way, straighten them out with a comb or something.  This happened to me.  Also, make sure the A/C is getting plenty of space on both sides - the outside and the inside of it.  If it has a thermostat, you might be able to figure out what temp you can set it at where it'll shut itself off before it freezes itself over.  Other than that, get a new filter, clean the coils, anything to make the air go through it faster

Pretty much what's happening is the coils are getting cold enough for a very fast hot breeze of air to be pumped through it.  It cools the hot air off so fast that by the time it leaves your vent, it's super cold, to cool the room.  The problem is, if the amount of hot air pumped through those coils isn't as much as it's supposed to be, the air cools TOO much, TOO fast, and then condenses right there, forming ice on the coils.  This causes a domino effect - the ice forming on the coils slows the air down even more, and by the time you get home, it's completely frozen over.

  2. YOU HAVE AN AIR RESTRICTION SOMEWHERE,CK YOUR INSIDE COILS MAKE SURE THEYARE CLEAN,CK YOUR FILTER,ALSO CK YOUR COND.COILS,AND ITS NOT COOLANT,ITS REFRIGERANT MORE THAN LIKELY R-22 OR 410-A.THE LOW SIDE SHOULD BE BETWEEN 65&70LBS.

OF PRESURE. THE HIGH SIDE 150TO200LBS IF THEY'RE NOT ANY RESTRICTIONS,ONE WAY TO TELL IF THERE IS A RESTRICTION,THE GUAGES WILL GIVE A FALSE READING

GENERALY AROUND 55LBS. AND IT WONT MATTER HOW MUCH  REFRIG.YOU ADD IT WONT CHANGE.

MAYBE THIS IS TO MUCH INPUT. BUT YOU HAVE  SOME KIND ON AIR RESTRICTION

  3. no the evaperator coil itsef is probably dirty. or the fan may be set/stuck on low speed. also, a low charge of refrigerant will cause an evap to freeze. sorry, but im afraid you will need a service call. gl with it.

  4. There are several reasons as to why an a/c will freeze up.  Low on freon (needs to be checked after the unit is completely defrosted), Low air flow across the coil- caused by a dirty air filter &/or a dirty evap coil, and the t-stat may be set too low.  My guess is that you have a combination of all of the above.  Good luck and God Bless.
