Question:

My AC is spitting water out from where the air is blowing?

....it is a 10000 BTU window unit aprox 3 years old, and it is tilted properly...it has not done this before, it almost even sounds like the fan is hitting water and bringing it back up with it?

I am not sure how to locate the drain to unclog if that is the issue or the drain line?

I can see water collecting in the bottom "pan" when I remove the filter - I read in another answer I can maybe use a wet vac for this?

Is the drain line the black straw like hose that is in front of the coils?

also can someone explain when I should have the vent on Open or Close?

I appreciate any and all suggestions

  1. Look for a "tee"fitting at or around the unit in the drain line.Remove the cap, grasp the end with your pinky, ring, and middle finger, take a deep breath, and blow into your partial fist and into the drain. This will usually work in a pinch. If you cannot find a "tee",you will have to back blow it from where the drain is on the outside.the same way as desribed above.A little nasty but will usually fix the problem.

  2. If it is level and water not running into the house , inspect the unit to see if the outside fan blade has a slinger ring built into it.  This will be a solid metal or plastic ring connecting the outer edges of the fan blade! You will notice small scoops that dip down into the condensate water and slings it into the air stream and against the condenser coils. This makes the unit much more efficient and to lesser degree a little noisier. It also may eliminate the puddle that can splatter underneath the unit. You should still verify the drain is open to allow rain water or excessive water to escape.  Good Luck.
