My AC unit has stopped working and leaking!!?

My AC unit stopped working this morning and my carpet is soaked in the basement.

the filter was changed last month and again yesterday.

I turned on the FAN only 4 hours ago to try and thaw if coil happen to freeze ( not sure though)

I can hear it runniung, outdoor fan is spinng, but no air !

I am worried because I cant find the leak anywere? I cant see were its leaking from at all..

Can you please help me ?? What else can check ??

  1. Thalassa, Your central A/C should be equipped with a condensate pump.   It's a rectangle shaped thing, probably on the floor next to the air handler.  There should be two hoses going to it, one from the unit, and a second one that is tied to the lines that run outside.

    This is supposed to be wired to shut off the a/c if it fills-up.

    It sounds like either one of the lines is clogged, or the condensate (water that drips from the a/c as it's running) is leaking onto the floor before it gets into the pump.

    You may be able to unclog the line yourself, or call an HVAC service technician to trouble-shoot it.

  2. if the unit is in your window, you might have to tilt it so it drains outside, not in.  mine was doing the same thing.  and it should have room in front of it.
