I live in an apartment on the bottom floor. I would call maintenance but they don't know that i own a dog so i try to fix everything myself. Does anyone have a suggestion on how i can stop my AC from leaking water? Also, is it leaking b/c of the humidity in the air?

  1. a/c r suppose to have water coming from them....but if u have a furnace...then look for a hose coming off of it....this hose may be clogged....if u  can get the hose off then blow thru it....should clear it out

  2. I had good luck in cleaning out the drain line from the condensate drip pan of my central heating/ac unit by rigging up a hose between the outlet end of the drain pipe -- outside of the house -- and the suction side of a shop vacuum.  Worked perfect for me.

  3. Find your furnace filter and replace it.

It is probably clogged up and causing the A-Coil to freeze up.

Your drip pan under the a-coil could also be plugged up.

There should be some screws and a removeable cover on the front of your ac unit either above or below where the filter is. Unscrew them and remove this cover. You should then be able to se the a-coil. Under the a-coil is the drip pan. It has an outlet coming out the front of the cabinet. Run a pipe cleaner or something through this outlet to make sure it isn't plugged up. Clean out debris, change filter, start up.

Remember turn off electrical breaker to furnace first, and turn it back on then finished.

  4. The AC condenses moisture out of the air and it has to go somewhere. There should be a drain (called the condensate drain) line to carry the water to the outside. It obviously is stopped up and needs to be cleared out. Find it and run a stiff wire through it. It usually goes from the pan at the bottom of the inside unit to the outside of the house.

  5. if the ac unit is a window type the drain holes may be clogged or it is tipped inwards it should tip slightly outwards if it is a central unit  the drain line my be clogged  in either case it will take a person familiar with the unit to correct the problem put the dog in a kennel for the day and call maintenance

  6. its backed up. you can get a little compressor and push the dirt and yuck stuff through or get some bleach and pour it down this pipe thats connected to the a c

  7. I like the answer Richard R give you about pouring bleach down the drain.  You can also buy a sink cleaning tool, it is nothing more than long 3/16 " spring.  It will go down drain line.  I would try bleach first.  Turn off Electricity and sponge out water,  poor in the bleach, and let it do the work.

    Good Luck

  8. If you live in the south you are going to encounter a lot of humidity.  Most of it drains out without a problem, however, algae builds up in the drain line & plugs the drain line & nothing flows through.  I have used 2 methods - if you can access the drain pipe you can use a standard garden hose to flow water through it (NOT high pressure); or, you can obtain a compressor & blow the sludge out.  You will need to use a brush and/or cloths to clean out what algae you can see & reach.  Periodic maintenance like this will save you a lot of headaches in the future.  Hope this helps.

  9. HVAC Tech.: You may have to board the dog for a week. You are not qualified to make the repair and could make your problem much worse. At one time I did apartment maint. Knowing how and where the drain pans are and the previous history of the unit, is important. If the pan is rusted and in need of replacement you would need to to call maint. anyway. You can be held liable for damages done because you did not report the problem. CALL MAINT.
