Question:

My Alpine PDX-1.1000 and power ratings CEA?

Its Class D mono subwoofer amp CEA compliant all that sh*t...So the birth sheet says 1180 RMS x 1 @ 2/4 ohms and I obviously bought it knowing same power output for both impedances...Which will sound louder? Which will hit harder? Which will destroy my car's electrical system faster?

Also What would happen if I tried to run it at 1 ohm...I have never seen this rating and highly doubt it...

Thanks you have all been so helpful

  1. MDC answered it as best as it could be- everything was right on

  2. They will sound the same.  This amp is made to run the same at both 2 and 4 ohms.  If you really wanted to get technical though then run it at 4 ohms.  Running your amp at a higher impedance will put less strain on it.  It will cause less heat which means you amp will last longer.  It can also mean better sound quality.

With an amp of this quality the difference is really minimal and pretty much non-existent.  But technically those are the differences between a 2 and 4 ohm load.  I don't know what that amp is but usually a higher impedance also means better efficiency.  This means less strain on your electrical system.  Again, with this amp the difference is probably very little.

If you try to run it at 1 ohm the amp will likely go into protect mode.  It could also damage your amp.  Bottomline, that amp is not meant to be run at 1 ohm so don't run it at that.
