Question:

My Aquarium Snail is Hiding???

Yeah I recently bought a large snail for my fish aquarium. Its a gold mystery snail to be exact I think. But when we bought it at the store it was very active moving around the tank and when we got it home for the first week or so it did the same, moving all over the place. But no its been staying in this one corner behind a plant, oh and last night I saw it digging, YES digging, it was digging a hole, it almost got through the entire 1or more inches of rocks we have lined at the bottom of our tank, and it doesn't move like at all anymore.

IT HAS BEEN PROVEN IT IS ALIVE SO NO ONE ANSWER AND SAY ITS DEAD CAUSE ITS NOT!

  1. Snails are very sensitive to sound, so maybe you startled it by a loud noise of some sort.  It must have been scared and is now hiding until it knows that it is safe enough to come out of hiding.

    Hope I helped =]

  2. Given that it is still moving about even if less than it was, I agree it could be the other fish picking on it. Mine did the same thing in some of my tanks because some fish like to poke them and/or bite the feelers. Also, what temperature is  you tank? They like it warm, but if it's more than 80F or so, they'll stop moving around as it's uncomfortable for them. On the other hand, if your tank is too cold, it could be trying to hibernate. You might also check the nitrate/nitrite levels, they're sensitive to water quality and often show signs before most fish that there is something wrong.

  3. Hello its snail they r slow!!

  4. Snails can change their s*x, your snail may have layed some eggs, it could have been digging to find an appropriate spot to lay, but could have settled for behind the plant. It could just be protecting it's eggs, if there are any!

  5. What kind of fish do you have in your aquarium?  Sometimes snails will do that when they are being pestered by fish.  They can go dormant for quite a long period of time and if a fish is bothering them they will sometimes find a safe hiding place and close their door and just stay there, not moving for a few days or even a week.  I had a purple striped apple snail that started doing that because my albino bristle nose pleco kept bumping into it and pushing it around when he was moving around the tank.  It got so that my snail hardly moved at all anymore.  I got worried that it wasn't getting enough to eat and I finally moved it into another tank where it started to come out of its shell more and move around all the time again once the pleco wasn't around to bother it.

*Additional*  Well, if it's not tucked away in its shell, then it's fine.  It's probably just sleeping.  Snails can spend a lot of time sleeping.
