My Aster Novi-belgii has gone funny!!!?

I planted an Aster Novi-Belgii in my garden border, it has grown to the height stated and was looking pretty good it has buds that are ready to open but the plant is covered in what i can only describe as a white dust can anyone tell me what this dust is and what to do about it as ive given it lots of attention and dont want to lose it.

  1. Asters are susceptible to powdery mildew and this is what your plant is suffering from.  

    There are fungicides available but you would be constantly spraying, it would be best to select a variety that is resistant.
