He will be in GA tomorrow the 19th. He said his training won't start till the 29th. So will he get to write before then or not till after that? And since he is doing Infantry with Basic, will he get a basic training graduation and then a final graduation after he is done? He will be down there for 14 weeks and 3 days. Thanks =)

  1. He will be able to write. Basically after reception which can be an uncertain amount of time.  He can write during reception but he wont have a return address.  Once he starts basic they will give him an address and most likely will force him to write a letter.

  2. They made us write the first day.

  3. The military urges all members to write home as much as possible.

They did require everyone to write family before leaving a command to notify the family that their address is changing and to notify the family when they got their new mailing address.

Despite training,he should have some free time to write.

His first letter should be just after he gets there just to send his mailing address and any other personal correspondence.

  4. he probably will not be allowed to write you a letter

  5. He can write to you as soon as he gets there. However, he won't have a return address to send you. He will be going through reception for 10 days, then he will ship to BCT.

Infantry only has one Graduation. It is not a regular BCT cycle. It is OSUT (One Station Unit Training). He will be sending a info package stating his Graduation date and other info to his family.

  6. Hey!

Check with the web for Benning and the Army.  Also, maybe his recruiter can help.

Take care and back him up.  He's going to wonder how sane he is after the first week of Basic. :)

  7. Everything War1776 said is correct.

There is only ONE graduation in OSUT.

It usually plays out like this:

Arrival to Reception, about 10 days or so there.

Then day 1 of BCT (9 weeks) begin.

Week 1-3 is known as "Red Phase" or "Total Control"

Week 4-6 is known as "White Phase"

    and Week 7-9 "Blue Phase"

After those 9 weeks, usually the soldier is given

a 48 hour pass, where family comes down and

visits and the soldier gets to spend 2 days and 1

night out with the family. Then they return to finish

off the remaining weeks until graduation.

Oh, and the mail. He can write you during reception

but you won't have a return address. He will write

either you or his parent(s) a letter home on day 1

of BCT with his new mailing address. Also, if

fortunate he'll be allowed to make a phone call

saying that he's alright. Pray for him not to be in

what is called a "High Speed, High Stress" company.

    THOSE SUCK.
