my BOYS highschool volleyball tryouts are on friday and there are about 15 to 20 ppl trying out for frosh soph(the freshman and sophmore team). im really worried about them because about only 12 ppl make the team. ive been noticing lately that some of the ppl that are trying out along with me are taller and about equally athletic as me if not more. so i was wondering if anyone reading this could give me tips on what would give me a better chance to make the team and help me keep in calm head during them. i really really REALLY wanna make the team. PLEEEEEEEEASE HELP MEEEEE!!!

  1. As mentioned above, ask a question or two.  (Not fifty)

Call the ball LOUDLY every time you are going to play it.  You want people on the next court moving away from their play on the ball because you called it so loud.

Hustle all the time.  Even if it is to get water during your team break.  An example is in the hitting line.  Almost everyone walks to retrieve the ball that they hit.  If you hustle for your shot, you will get more turns in line hitting.

And you will show that you hustle.

Never say anything negative about anyone or anything until you get home and you are in your room.  You never know who is listening.  You never want anyone to think you  have a negative attitude.

When the coach is talking, you are listening.  If the coach calls the team over, I am betting that the coach has something to say.  If he wants your opinion, he will ask you what you think.

If your teammates do a good shot, give them a high five and tell them that they made a great shot.  If your teammates messed up, go tell them that they will get the next shot.

I will even suggest wearing a clean, brightly colored t-shirt that does not have anything suggestive on it.

  2. Just because their taller doedsnt mean that you arent just as good or even better. Don't focus on them focus on your game and you

  3. well all i can say is, try to do your best. coaches love players who give it 120% even when everyone else is dead tired. don't mess around too much but remember to have fun. if you're not having fun what's the point. (corny sorry) ummmm from what i've seen at my school's guys tryouts, the coach loves it when people trying out can serve and bump correctly. good luck!

  4. Know i'm a girl and all and i might not get boys volleyball but whenever i tryout i always try to appeal to the coaches better nature.

    1) Ask if you can have some pointers from one of the coaches, it shows you have heart!!!<3

2)Try, Try ,Try its all you can do

    3) Height doesn't matter because believe me im not the tallest person in the world but i made a-team every year for 3 years, because i have heart and believe.

I know all this sound corny, but hey corny sometimes works!!!

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

  5. Put in your best effort and if you feel like the height issue might be a problem try setting. I am only 5'8" and i made the team as a setter

  6. Being a boy's volleyball coach, I can tell you that Gordon is just about 100% right. You need to have a good attitude and don't be afraid to make mistakes, just keep trying and ask for help.

Realize that even if you do try your best, you still may not make it. But that's okay, Coaches notice those that love the game, support others, and have great attitudes. Depending on the program, you may be able to be a manager and practice with the team. All that practice will help you in your tryouts the next year.

Don't worry about others either, I've known some slow tall players that just didn't have the "IT" factor, but some smaller boys that are animals on defense or even as hitters. Height is not the be all and end all of volleyball, quickness and communication are. If you worry too much about others, you're not conetrating on yourself.

  7. all You can do is try your hardest and show that you really want it BADLLY!!! dont try and show anyone up and be a team player if someone says something rude to you just come back with a positive attitude and good sportsmanship. help other people out and act dedicated it will show the coaches that your worth their time take the try outs seriously. and hustle for everything running drills even water breaks "everything".  also call for every ball every set and every hit. just try your best and show some heart, dedication, devotion, and inspiration as corny as that may sound!!! My best of luck to you!!!! :))))

  8. Some ideas is just calm down first of all take a couple of deep breaths. Dont look at the "competition" just focuse on your strong points. not your week points. You dont have to be tall to feel confident im prety short and a freshman an i made jv almost varsity but there was a dumb rule bout age. HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOUR SELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and dont have a lot to drink b4 the tryouts

  9. try to stand out with whatever your good at

for my vball tryouts i knew i would make it and i did but i really wanted my friend to make it and shes good at bumps so i made all the people passsing to her give her bumps and they did

    and she made it:)
