I can work online for a little while, but then the DSL light goes out & then the Internet light goes, flashes for a few seconds then comes back, any reason for this?

  1. Disconnect all your phone equipment, so that the modem is the only thing connected.  If that doesn't work, it's BT's problem - either a bad modem or a bad line, connection somewhere, etc.  Call them and, if they can't help, insist that they cancel service with no penalty - since they obviously are incapable of providing what you're paying for.

If unplugging everything fixes it, make sure that *everything* plugged into a phone jack (answering machines, fax machines, etc.) (except the modem) has a filter on it.  There are two signals on that line - internet and telephone.  Anything *not* using the internet connection needs a filter to keep from degrading the internet signal.

  2. There is a reason, but you wont be online long enough to read all of it....

    simply BT equipment aint great.

  3. Are you using a splitter to connect the router? If yes, make sure you have connected the phone as well to the same splitter. The the line should not drop.

  4. I'm having the same problem with Orange, just spent 15 minutes on the phone re-setting every thing. Got off the phone, and lo! and behold!,line went down again. Maybe BT?
