Fever is an indication of an infection. The most common in babies is a urinary tract infection or teething. If the child's temp increases past 39 there is a chance of convulsion. To imediately reduce the temp give he/she some children's panadol, remove all clothing, try to get into a room of about 18 C, pat down with a temped cloth, try to get child to drink lots of water, and call a Doctor. The Doctor will want to find out exactly what is causing the infection so will ask for a Urine sample. The reason for the increase in temp is because the Hyperthalamus in the brain has reset the child temp, it's basically making the environment for the infection as hard to live in as possible.
