Ok, so I've had her for about a month, but every time I feed her, she wont take the food until i gently grab her jaws. she opens her mouth and when i put the pinkys head in her mouth, she swalloes it. She is eating regularry that way, she seems very happy and active, her humidity is 55-60. She is a hatchling baby Ball Python. Also her temp. is 85 and 90 on hot side.

BUT WHY WONT SHE STRIKE BY HERSELF? (i feed her f/t by the way, and the mouse is hot/warm). Overall she is doing great

HELP?

  1. if she is eating that way and is happy then don't worry about it...its all good.  its better to have to assist her a little bit than to feed her live because once ball pythons get used to live its a pain in the backside to get them to switch to dead or prekilled.

  2. where did you get it from?

  3. idk, ask the vet, or a petsmart

  4. Ball pythons are not easy to feed. Some of them go months without eating. Are you giving her live mice? Try giving her pre-killed mice. Maybe that will work better.

  5. use live food. maybe try putting the pinky and the snake in a paper bag together

  6. Sell the snake and keep the mouse.

  7. For a hatchling only a month old this is typical behaviour and is something you may have to continue with for upto six months. But i would be feeding her 2 pinkies every 5-7 days or try fluffs which is the next size up,1 every 7 days.increasing the food a bit more will help her put a bit more weight on and the increase in size might just get her feeding by herself. You could also try putting the mouse in with her and then leave her alone in the dark over night and this might also trigger a response but i dont think you have too much to worry about at this stage.
