My Ball python is not sheading all his old skin, what should I do?

My 6 month old snake does not shead all the way. He usually sheads off only half of his old skin. He had mites about two months ago, but I treated them. Other than that he has had a stress free life. Any information will be helpful.

  1. shedding problems are usually the first sign of improper humidity levels.

make sure his enclosure is kept at the right levels so his skin can absorb the moisture to aid in shedding.

you can soak him with a warm towel for awhile twice a week to aid in the shedding, or even use a bit of mineral oil on the parts that have not shed.

you can buy redimade "shed aids" from the local petstore as well.     you can check this out too, it might help!

    good luck!

  2. My ball python just shed last week. When I bought her I took her to the vet for a regular check up to make sure she was healthy. The vet told me to help with shedding, fill up a bath tub with a little bit of water and let the snake swim around in it. Make sure that it is very shallow water to where the snakes belly is touching the bottom of the tub and is still over halfway out of the water. Ball Pythons love to swim, plus it's good excercise for them. Never leave the python unattended in a bath tub, as they will always try to escape...I know mine does! :-)

You might also want to check your humidity levels in your python's cage. If the humidity levels are too low, that could be why your snake is having troubles shedding. I keep my baby's cage set at 50% humidity.

  3. i have 2

    dont worry

    just wait

sometimes they dont need 2 shed their skin

  4. Try keeping the humidity around 60% when it is not trying to shed and bump the humidity up to 80-85% when you notice the color fading and the eyes getting glossed over gray or "blue-ish".  You could put the snake in a warm bath about 2" deep.  The water temperature should be between 90-95 degrees.  Leave the snake in the water for 4-5 min a day only during the begining part of the shed.  Doing these things should help greatly.  Be sure to check for eye caps or left over skin over the eye.  Good Luck

  5. here is your problem.  you probably have a screen top.  use a piece of melamine wood.  dont worry they will get enought oxygen.  then use about 2 watts per gallon from a heat lamp.  you can just drill a socket into the melamine top. (lets say you have a 10 gallon then use a 25 watt bulb)  leave it on 24 hrs a day.  that will do the trick.  dont use any bigger tank than a 20 or it will stop eating. they get intimidated by the larger areas. hope this helps

  6. i would go and browse the internet or find some books on pythons. hope it helps
