Question:

My Beardie Has An Injured Toe... (UK ONLY PLEASE!)?

I noticed today when I was having a look at him to make sure he was OK. I noticed one of his toes wasn't as arched as the others, and it was bending slightly to the side. He is walking on it- I want to take him to the vets because I figured that's probably why he has been really grouchy and skittish with me. How much roughly will it cost to get him looked at?

  1. When i took my sick rep to a Pets at Home vet - Companion Care - i think it cost £25 for an initial consultation and then £19 per each addition consultation re the same matter.

Phone up your local one and ask if they have a vet that is familiar with reptiles.

To be honest, just get the yellow pages out and phone around - in the time it took to type your question you caould have phoned several places and had exact figures for your area.

  2. it will cost £20 - £30  to see the vet maybe it is broken if that's the case the x-ray will roughly be £40

  3. whilst your average household pet vet can confirm a broken bone i would strongly reccomend using a specialist reptile vet,  broken bones due to accidents are common but there may be underlying calcium problems that a specialist vet would be able to best advise, specialist vets tend to be more expensive, but will be more equipped to give you the right treatment and advice, not knowing what area your in i cant advise a reptile vet, but i use one in the kent area, you may be able to find one in your area from her website, www.exoticpetvet.co.uk good luck

  4. In the UK, the cost of a veterinary consultation is £20-30 (Inc VAT).

I would like to note that £20 is cheap and most veterinary consultation will cost you around £28 (Inc VAT).

Some practices offer special deals, especially when they just open. If you are looking for a deal, try a companion care practice: they are veterinary surgeries located into "Pets at Home" pet shops. They usually run a free 1st visit within the 1sr 6 months of opening the practice. You may search for such deals in your area at:

  5. He may have just snagged his nail on a branch or something, so it isn't bending properly b/c his toenail is going to fall out. It won't cost much to have it looked at, b/c the dr's probably won't be able to do much about it. They'll just tell you to give it time and wait it out.

  6. He may have had problems shedding the skin from his foot, it's quite common in reptiles. I think the prices differ between vets, try taking him to a specialist pet shop, perhaps the one you get your live food from and ask there opinion on what to do.
