Billy Morey was pleased with his colt’s performance, but was vary of what was in stored for his young runner in the 8 December encounter, and for that he paid close attention to the $55,100 Golden Nugget at Golden Gate Fields.
The reason was Jerry Hollendorfer’s duo, Outside Nashville, who drew away to win the Golden Nugget Stakes and will return in the Gold Rush Stakes, and the third place finisher of the race, Zeewat, who will also try  his luck in December.
Billy Morey was impressed with Jerry Hollendorfer’s duo, after what he say in the Golden Nugget Stakes, and both of them will figure to challenge his runner, My Best Bet, in the Gold Rush Stakes.
The 2-year-old bay colt by Broken Vow, Outside Nashville was matching strides with the favoured stakes winner, Strong Wind, in the six furlong sprint, but started motoring away at the far turn, as he was a length ahead at the eighth pole, eventually winning by 4 ½ lengths, as Strong Wind only defeated Zeewat in third by three quarters of a length.
Outside Nashville, who just broke his maiden at third attempt prior to the Golden Nugget Stakes, earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 89, and covered the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 9.54 seconds.
On the other hand, Harlan’s Holiday’s 2-year-old bay colt, Zeewat, broke his maiden at first asking at Santa Rosa, and at the same venue downed his maiden stakes victory, when he landed the Cavonnier Juvenile Stakes on 12 August.
My Best Bet, who won his maiden claiming race at first asking at Calder race course on 23 June, also ran in the Cavonnier Juvenile Stakes at Santa Rosa, and finished third behind Zeewat.
Tnt Racing’s My Best Bet won a starter allowance in between, but fell away yet again in a stakes race called the Charlie Palmer Futurity at Fresno.
