  1. you should let him get used to his new home and if he still doesn't eat check out this site

    http://www.bettatalk.com/betta_diseases....

    good luck

  2. try feeding him with live foods, betta fish are carnivorous fish so live food is great, i feed my betta with fish meat they really love it, but you need to control their eating because they will just eat and eat until they die due to indigestion. in your case try to feed him live foods and maybe your fish is just stressed out or is afraid of you for the moment, betta fish has different personalities, so try to learn and understand  your betta.

  3. He may be sick.  Do you notice any white spots (ich).  Is he draging himself around the tank.  It could also be that the tank temp is too cold.  Check it against the ideal temp for a Beta.

  4. A couple things to think about that might be causing his prob.

    1) Are you feeding him Betta flakes or Betta Pellets?

If he is use to being fed the other that may be why.

    2) What type of container do you have him in?

a)Bowl  or tank w/ no air filter

b)1 or more- gallon tank with air filter??

    3) Tank temp (they like 70-75

When I switched mine to a tank with air filter and lighted hood (for heat and light)  he perked up and started eating.

Mine will eat both betta pellets and betta flakes and I occasionally will give him freeze dried blood worms as a treat.

  5. Give him a couple of days (or more) to acclimate to his new home!!  It's very common for fish to refuse food and/or hide for a few days after purchase.

Are you housing him correctly?  Bettas are tropical fish and need a minimum 2.5 gallon tank with a heater.  Your water should be 78F - 82F.  Bettas housed inappropriately in bowls, small containers and with room temp, unheated water don't thrive.  Instead they will lose color intensity, refuse to eat properly and will become lethargic.

Hikari's betta forumula is ok.  Bettas are insectivores and appreciate treats of bloodworms.  Live bloodworms may be difficult to find so frozen is acceptable, too.

  6. This happened to my betta when I first got him too. I think he is just adapting to his environment. Don't worry. After a couple of days he'll warm up to you. If you're really concerned, though, try feeding him a different type of food. Bettas can be picky. I feed mine the pellets and he seems to like them.
