My Birthday 06/08/08 equals my age??

Question

on my birthday a few weeks ago, for one reason or another I realized my birthday equals my age. I was born on august 6th 1986, so my birthday this month was 06/08/08 6+8+8= 22. Since i am 22 that is tripping me out, not to mention all my birthdays for the rest of my life will equal my age. Can anyone tell me odds of this happening? or if its good luck?

Well, a birthday on August 8th (8/8) is considered good luck in some cultures. That's why China held the Olympic opening ceremony on 08/08/08 starting at 8:00 in the evening!

But from your description, it's obvious that anyone born the same year you were on a day that, added to the number of the month, adds up to 14, would have that same characteristic from the year 2000 on. So all those born on January 13, February 12, March 11, etc. down to December 2 in 1986 have the same "luck."

Furthermore, anyone born the following year with month and day adding up to 13 would have the same thing, and anyone the preceding year with month and day adding to 15, and so forth. Given the year, you can calculate a list of dates of birth such that this would happen.

The earliest such date would have been December 31, 1957.

The last such date would have been January 1, 1998.

Make your month of birth M and day D. The year is Y

This started being true in 2000 where 6 + 8 = 14.

The only way this will be true is if 100-y = M + D

There is always going to be a value for 100 - y, in your case 14.

So what were the odds of M + D = one specific value? You need to know how many values you could have had, and then how many of them added to the correct value.

Possibles=  365

Possibles that added to 14, 1-13,2-12,3-11,4-10,5-9,6-8,7-7,8-6,9-5,...

That's 12. So by this logic, 365/12=30.

So this will be true for around one in 30 people born between Samwise's 1957 and 1998.
