  1. Is your boyfriend Jamaican or are you both going there to live from abroad? Best place to live depends on what your preferences are and if you have to work or not. Best places to shop depends on where you living, but Kingston offers the most variety. Grocery stores? They have  food , baskets and cashiers just like in the U.S. but the aisles are not as wide and American goods and brands are quite expensive. Strange you would think of moving there if you have never visited.  How old are you and how long have you been with your boyfriend?

  2. I lived there from August 2007- May 2008.   I lived in Kingston.  I can only help if that's where you're going.  Where ARE you planning on moving?!

As a side note, it's not the most pleasant place to live.  Violence is out of control, poverty rates are insane and inflation is high... taxes are 16.5% on everything.  Why is poverty your problem?  The aggressive survival mechanisms the poor resort to may just be your problem.  JA is beautiful and so much fun to party... but to stay permanently?  Nah, I couldn't handle it... and I've lived in 5 different countries... this was my least favorite.

If you wanna try, do it on a trial basis.

  3. I'd suggest you double check on whether its legal for you to move there.  If you're not a Jamaican citizen there's likely a time limit for you to remain in the country.  Also, you probably wouldn't be able to work there legally.

I suggest you visit a bookstore and check out the travel book section.  That way you can look through several books on Jamaica.

Finally, its a good idea to take an extended trip to Jamaica BEFORE you decide to move.  Even a couple of weeks would give you a lot to go on.

  4. I love my country and if you haven't make sure you go to visit first . If is not the tourist area you going to live think twice you would need to know the ropes before you pack you bags. you  can live in the country for 6mths.

  5. wow  i think you should int   go   cause if economicaly your not good don t goe but the best to live  in jamaica should bein the city over theire is more secure  for you guy's

  6. My boyfriend is from jamaica also, believe me-its a big change from Usa! so much violence, townships, poverty, jobs are impossible to get if you are not a local& the cost of living is so expensive also so is the rent,...No offence to jamaican girls but if you are not jamaican they don not like to see you with ''there men''

If i was you i would go on a trial basis & see how you get on!

  7. My boyfriend lives in Jamaica as well! He says I will not like it,and should just visit because New York is so much easier! Or move to Florida,to be closer to him! He will most likely move back here! Anyway,I would love to live in jamaica, but the economy is rough, and the crime rampant!Just like many on this panel suggested, you should visit for at least 3 months first, before you make a decision! many items are imported, and things are very expensive! Jobs are hard to come by(I know, cuz I tried very hard)They would rather give jobs to locals! See if you can get your boyfriend to move here,or just visit every few months(like I do) until u get a feel for the life there! Good luck whatever you decide! I know long-distance relationships can be very difficult!

  8. If you never spent time in Jamaica, DO NOT pack up & move there....agree to stay 3 months & see if you can hang or not. Its a ruff place, no the crime per se, but everyday living...getting through on errands, dealing with no customer service, going through the hoops of regulations that takes forever, the dirty enviorment, the lack of american food items, the jeering you'll hear from the men......its a culture shock that you may not appreciate.

Best place to live depends alot on what you want. Kingston is most likely the best place to not feel "out of place" and get items you need/want, but all four of the major cities have their own feel & vibe.
