I live in Arizona, Tempe.I have a butterfly iris (dietes vegeta) at my apartment and I keep it in part shade near the French window that opens into the balcony. It had been okay for 3 months now. And i suddenly see that the leaves have been turning brown and gradually drying out. And when I tried to cut the brown leaves i was shocked t find that some greener leaves actually came out of the soil so easily as if they were just stuck inside a wet soil. What could have been possibly going wrong? It never bloomed so far btw.

  1. It is that time of year for iris's to be cut down and rest for the next season, and for the iris not to bloom this season don't worry only a few of mine boomed, some did not even get a stalk. Iris's rest every so often about every three years, it will be back next year.

  2. It sounds like it is almost done for this year's growing season.  You might want to take it into your house and continue to grow it in a south facing window.  Don't over water it during the winter months.
