  1. It's a new law that the federal government is implementing.  It's a method of providing a universal security to IDs.  States are required to use stricter methods of insuring that you are who you say you are.  It's to prevent terrorists from getting fake IDs.

As or getting your license renewed without it, highly unlikely.  The federal government is enforcing this by threatening to take away money from the states if they don't comply.

For it being expired, relax.  If you do something that gets you pulled over, explain the situation to the officer in a polite manner.  Legally you have a week (check if this is different in your state) to produce a valid license.

    Good luck.

  2. I would go into the DMV and ask.   It really depends on who you get that day.

  3. Legally, they have to verify your identity.  Ask specifically if your old licence will do.  You should have a copy of your birth certificate, EVERYBODY should have a birth certificate copy.

  4. I moved to fla. from tex. 4 years ago.I had a current valid tex. lic. but still had to go home get the bc then go back. They would not accept a lic. from tex. because so many illegals have lic. in tex. same problem in calif.-- just comply and provide the documents---they are finally doing what many of us been asking them to do. Enforce our laws!  Just another side effect of illegal  immigration. The reason they did not tell you this is because they are too politically correct to even answer your question.

  5. its a new law you need a birth certificate to renew your license one time.  it to stop illeages

  6. I'm sure the CA DMV's website has a section dealing with this since it happens a lot.  You will probably have to provide some form of current photo ID.

  7. You should have received your new license before the old one expired. Mine has expired twice before and once I had to go back into the DMV to retake the written driving test because I had too many violations on my driving record. If you dont have any violations on your record you shouldn't have to do anything to get your new license. Just call the DMV and ask them why you haven't received your new license and they will tell you what to do.
