Our cat had her (so far 5) kittens in my dads closet (he's gonna be pis*ed). We had set up a place for her to give birth to her kittens in quiet place in basement but clearly that wasn't part of her plan. So my mom (she's on vaction with her friends in Jamaica) said that after a cuople days, we could put some gloves on and move the kittens downstairs. But were not sure when we are allowed to touch them. And what were soppose to do! Advice, and info please!

  1. my friend kasey had the same problem. u cant touch them, but you could but something underneath them like a towel or something and move them somewhere else bu u cant touch them if they were just born. im not quite sure but my friend already hd the towel underneath them.

  2. You can definitely touch the kittens. I have had several litters of kittens and have touched them all. The mother wont neglect them or anything. she might be a little over protective and not like you touching them for the first few days but she wont neglect them. just leave them  there for tonight and move her and the babies tomorrow. But usually if she doesn't like the spot she will move all of her babies somewhere else. they usually like places like closets, under beds, etc. secluded areas work the best. good luck!

  3. You can move them, if the mother trusts you. Each mother is different, and cats can be a little touchy, but you'll probably be fine :)

Make sure the mother follows you every step of the way, and knows *exactly* where her kittens are. Put food and water nearby (if possible).

A tip: close any and all doors possible to rooms you dont want her to move her kittens to, at least for a day or so. If you can shut her downstairs (again, just for a day or so, and *she* can be let out, just not with babies in her mouth) she wont move the babies to anywhere you don't want her to--if she moves them at all.

    Good luck!

  4. i would wait until you are sure she is done giving birth before you move the kittens. when she is done if she is comfortable with you touching the babies, you can move them. you dont need to wear gloves, just make sure that your hands are clean. move them to somewhere that they will have lots of privacy and make sure it is somewhere you know they can be so that you do not have to move them again. make sure to have food, water, and a litterbox in the room for momma kitty and close her in the room for a few days so she knows where is she suppose to stay. congrats on the babies! oh and also make sure to put the babies in a box with blankets or atleast have blankets to put the babies on so they are comfy. if you have a walk in closet, that would probably be an ideal place for them.

  5. Let mom finish up tonight.  Tomorrow you can put her and the kittens in a box and move them to the new location.  Make sure you leave her food, water and a litter box.  Try not to bother her too much at first.  As long as she feels secure she'll probably stay in the new place.

Oh and yeah, mom cats RARELY if ever go to where YOU plan.  They pick out their own spots.

Also, make sure you give the kittens AT LEAST 8 weeks with mom to nurse.  10-12 would be better.  And when she's done, PLEASE GET HER SPAYED!  If you're not sure about that just visit your local shelter.

    PS

No gloves needed.  Just clean hands.

  6. Take your cues from momma kitty. When my cat had kittens, I handled them as soon as they were born, but Momma kitty was very comfortable with me. She would not stay in her birthing box without me and my husband in the room while she was giving birth. If momma kitty hisses and growls at you when you approach, leave her alone... but if she will allow you to touch her kittens, then carry her and her kitties tko their new location, make sureshe has food, fresh water and a litter box, and confine her for at least a week. Be VERY CAREFUL not to let her get out for at least the next month, because when the kittens are 2 to 3 weeks old, Momma kitty will go into heat (called a kitten heat) and can get pregnant again. When the kittens are 6 to 8 weeks old, Momma kitty can be spayed.

  7. wait 2 -3 days b4 you touch then do not use powderd gloves just clean hands make sure they have a towel or a blanket (clean) do NOT use a box the kittens can break thier necks if u use a box ( ive had it happen to me )

  8. Do not use gloves with powered on them... try moving the cat and the kittens carefully so not to injury any of them use a dry rag that is clean for the kittens and put them in something that has a towel or blanket to keep all of them warm!

You might want to move mom first and have the kittens there soon after or you'll have a mad cat!

Good luck and if there are any stains try using the carpet cleaner with any kind of carpet safe floor cleaner!
