Question:

My CATS INSANE CAN SOMEBODY HELP?

I've taken her to the vet and they say nothings wrong with her. My problem is...every three or four weeks she may vomit from hair balls or whatever, but then she goes and takes a dump on my carpet. She screams like all get out before she vomits and while she's taking a dump. I've tried to keep the litter box clean, and my other cat and dog don't mess with her unless they want to play which isn't that often. Has this happened to anyone else and any suggestions on correcting this she's getting on my last nerve...I've had her for about 3 years and she's probably around 4 years old.

  1. It sounds as though she's constipated to some extent & it's uncomfortable for her to have a bowel movement.  The hair balls, vomiting and crying are all related to this.  I can't believe your vet didn't explain what's happening.

Your vet should have told you to add fiber to her diet.  You can easily do this by purchasing the UNFLAVORED Metamucil powder.  Feed her only canned food, as the extra water will help in moving her bowels.  Mix about 1/8 of a teaspoon or a little less, of the Metamucil powder into her canned food and add an extra 4-5 Tablespoons of water to it.  Make sure it's the unflavored kind.  Do this every other day, once a day only & see how she's doing.  You could also try mixing in a very small amount of mineral oil to the canned food.  The mineral oil will lubricate & help her pass the stool & hair.  You do not want her to become impacted with f***s and hair.  This can lead to a serious problem.  You want to keep things moving down there.  It's not an uncommon problem with cats.  I have one cat who naturally has bowel movements that are very hard and small,  no matter what kind of food I feed her.  I give her the Metamucil and she does very well on it.  I don't give it to her every day and when you do give it to her, only give it once a day.

Since her bowel movements are uncomfortable, she's most likely associating the discomfort with the litter pan.  She doesn't understand so try to be patient with her.  If you can close her in the area where her litter pan is, you may want to do that once you start giving her the Metamucil in the food.  She'll eventually go back to using the litter pan, once she's more comfortable.  Cats who have bladder infections can also have the same problem w/associating the litter box with the pain when they urinate.  It's normal.

    I hope this helps.

  2. i think you should put her in the litter box and tell her that that is her potty not the floor and keep doing it until she goes.

  3. ITS NORMAL! MY CATS WILL BAWL AND THEN TRY TO VOMIT HAIRBALLS OR FOOD! BUT NOT AGAIN! IT WILL PASS SOON! THEY SCREAM AND SAY MOUUUUUUUUUUUUU OUUUUUUUUUUUU! LOL!

  4. Don't be worried about the vomiting. It's just hairballs.

The following pooping on the floor however, I'm not sure. Hm.

  5. If it is vomiting every few weeks then it might just be hairballs, but I had a cat when I was young that vomited all the time...several times a week to almost every day...and the vet kept telling us he just had hairballs and kept giving us hairball treatment, but there was something else wrong with him.  We never did find out and he eventually became really weak and died.  The vet never said it was anything but hairballs.

The screaming when it is going to the bathroom is very strange behavior for a cat, if you ask me, and it kinda seems like when it goes to the bathroom it is in pain (hence the yowling).  Maybe you should take it to a different vet or tell a vet over the phone what it's symptoms are and see what they say.

  6. try another vet.

i assume by screaming you mean screaming, not just a meow. sounds like she is in pain scream. that would mean to me something is wrong, she is in pain.

  7. give her somethinking time in a room in your house for some hours and eventually she will cool down
