Question:

My Camera is Driving Me Crazy!

I just got the Canon FS100 and I tried to put my videos on my laptop by putting my sdhc card in the sd slot but my laptop wouldnt recognize it. So, I tried to use a USB cable to plug my camera into my laptop and I downloaded it that way, but then the videos came up as .MOD files and no editing software would accept it. What should I do? Is there an easier way to download and edit videos?

  1. Your camera record in MOD files, that has nothing to do with the way how you transfer it into the computer. If your comp does not recognize it (some card readers do not like SDHC, only SD card), you have to keep using the USB cable. In any case, you will always end up with MOD file.

Now, that is a trick from Canon (nad JVC I believe and perhaps few others). Those are fine mpeg-2 encoded files with stupid file extension. So find the file in Windows explorer and rename THE EXTENSION into "mpg" and ... here you go, the video is there. Now, unfortunately, for whatever reason, SOME programs would play only video and some will play video + audio. The audio IS THERE! (as long as you did not record without:-).

So, you can try Ulead Video Studio 9 for example, which should be able to open, play and convert the file incl. audio.

Or you might try this one:

    http://www.best-video-converter.com/avs-...

Or simply try any videoconverter/player until you find the one which will play the audio. (I believe, windows media player will not play the audio:-(, but that might depend on the version you have. Try to open int in Windows Movie Maker and see if that one recognize audio.

    Have fun and good luck
