My Camera isnt working Properly?

I have a Sony Cybershot Digital Camera, the power turns on and i can view previous photos on my memory card, but when i go to take a new photo it takes a BLACK picture, it doesnt matter how much light is around, you wont see nothing but a black picture, even though there is a flash.

What does that mean? the camera has never been dropped or anything could it be the settings???

Setup the camera to take a long picture (like a few seconds).  Look directly into the lense when taking the picture.  You should see the shutter open and close.  Does it even do that?  I sounds to me like your camera is broken.
