  1. First, call the police back and get them to file a report. Next call your insurance company, if you have comprehensive coverage they will take care of it and may even pay for a rental car depending your coverages.

  2. The prob punched a hole under the key hole, then peeled the column and off they went.

Who cares how...report it. Prob in the local lake somewhere by now.

  3. File a police report, report it stolen because if it involved in an accident and not reported stolen your responsible.

  4. Does it really matter how they got in?  Call the police and report it stolen, then call your insurance.  If you have extended coverage that covers theft, they will tell you what you need to do next.

Are the payments current?  If not you may be looking at a repossession.

  5. Call the police again and tell them you need to file a report of a stolen car.  Also, call your insurance company and report the car stolen.  At this point it doesn't matter HOW the car was stolen, just that it WAS stolen....(unless of course you left the keys in it.....then you're probably screwed insurance-wise.)

The police can't necessarily find the car for you (which is what I assume you mean when you say they "couldn't help"), but they will allow you to file a report - something the insurance company will need to properly file your claim anyway.

If you had comprehensive insurance on the car, you should eventually be paid for the stolen car by insurance (but watch your premiums go up...).  If you only had liability coverage on the car, you'll probably get nothing from the insurance company but your premiums shouldn't go up either - you'll just be out 1 car.  Good luck.
