My cat has a small scratch on the top of his nose that he got while outside. It doesn't seem to be causing him much pain, if any at all, but I just want to make sure he doesn't get an infection or anything.

What should I do?

  1. Just keep an eye on it, it should heal on it's own. If it looks like it's getting worse take him to the vet.

  2. Just put some betadine on it for disinfection. Or Fucidin ointment (not cream).

  3. Clean it out with some Bactine or other cleanser that is gentle. You can put a little antibiotic ointment on it to keep it from getting infected, but don't put too much on or it won't scab.

If you clean it daily and apply some Neosporin or something, he should be totally fine. If it gets p***y or red, tender, and swollen, call the vet.

  4. Rinse the wound with warm, salty water.  If there is any remaining debris, use tweezers or clean fingers to remove same.  If he licks the wound excessively or area becomes swollen, see your vet.

  5. Cats are amazing at taking care of themselves.

Unless he was fighting you really don't need to do anything. If he was fighting, consider having him neutered.

  6. my cat had a swollen eye from a fight and it healed in a day with no vet visits and we just let him get sleep and the next day it was gone

  7. if you live near a forest or where there was a forest recently he could have gotten it from a rabbit. i am very experienced with these problems. my cat got a hole at least 2cm deep in his head but he is alive and well. he tried to get into a rabbit nest and momma saw him. we have rabbits around that get 2 feet long so he was no match. i clean my cats cuts with warm water and put a mix of fresh cut Aloe Vera plant and zinc ointment or another type of antibiotic. the antibiotics don't seem to hurt him the warm water is the most painful because he comes home when they are very fresh. so it is nice and open.

  8. I agree, just keep an eye on it for now, maybe wipe it gently with a warm cloth to get any uggies out of it.. and watch it.. GOOD LUCK
