Question:

My Cat Scratches the Couch?

I really need help. I don't know what to do anymore.

My cat is about I guess 4 or 5. And she keeps scratching the couch. Now it's pretty much wrecked and she's been doing it for years. There is a big whole in the couch.

My parents want to get a new couch but my mom is afraid she'll do the same again so we are holding off.

I can't take it anymore. And my dad is not helping at all. I've tried saying "Stop" in an angry way. She just looks at you and gives you that face like she's pissed and will continue. So then I pull her off and say "No" like you are suppose to and then she runs off.

Me and her don't have a close bond. But she has a really close bond with my dad. But he never says anything when she starts to scratch. He says "Sammie, Stop it" but in too much of a nice way. Then she does like 3 more scratches and walks over. But then he is nice to her and is like "Come on sweetie, come up and see daddy" and treats her like a princess. So in my mind, I think that she thinks she can do anything now.

I've tried putting sticky tape on the couch where she scratches because I heard they don't like the feeling. But that didn't work. She just rips it off.

I've tried spraying her with water and that didn't work and left the floor a little wet.

What do I do! I can't take it anymore. It's really embarressing when people come over and they see a big hole in the couch. It makes me feel trashy and poor.

We've had two other cats but they were declawed and now I have another two cats and my mom felt bad and didn't get them declawed. My other cat does scratch but its on the side of the stairs and it doesn't do anything so we are fine.

We had a stratching post and the one cat used it while this cat still scratched the couch.

I'm running out of ideas!

What do I do to get her to stop?

I know my parents won't be into the idea of getting them declawed at this point.

*Sorry it's so long but I thought I should tell everything :) haha

  2. well i guess declawing is out of the question so trim them and be ferm with your dad he has to learn that every time she scratches the couch he has to yell at her and DON'T treat her like a princess because she gets it into her head that what she is doing is ok and nothing is wrong. so tell your dad from me "Yell at her and don't pet her every time she scratches the couch because you are the one making it worse!" XD hope that works

  3. the cat want do that if u keep her nails trimmed.  You dont have to have it declawed all u have to do is buy a nail clipper and cut them, but not to far down about every month.

  4. well u can try getting toys for her its a way for u to bond w/ her and a way so she is tired and stimulated.

and it sounds like u need to tlk 2 ur dad about wut hes doing wrong maybe he'll stop

  5. All She Want Her Nail Be Strong So She Can Scratch

    The Other cats Strongly...

Shoo Her If She Goes Near the couch

Now my Cat don't scratch The Couch Anymore I Shooed Her a Lot !!

    Good Luck.

    Nina.

  6. there is a spray at petco/petsmart that you can spray on the furniture that deters them from it

  7. defintley get some apple bite

  8. many cats do that.

Buy her/him a scratching post. you can get them in basically any pet store!

or if your getting a new couch give her the old one and put it in the garage or something and she can still scratch it and then get a new couch and she probably wont scratch it.

A scratching post looks like this... http://www.cozycatfurniture.com/images/s...

it feels nice on their nails thats why they scratch it, and you can put his/her food bowl on the top of it (dont worry it wont fall over!)

    They arent that expensive either.

    Hope I helped!
