My cat all of a sudden (shes almost 2 years old) is refusing to drink out of her water bowl will just leave it there full. And drinks out of anything else. Including the Toilet or even fish bowl. It has been the same Water bowl. We do the same thing with it wash it weekly on sunday extra rinses, and let it dry fill it up and give it to her. its the same water that's in the fish bowl and in the toilet. Should i be concerned or maybe try a different bowl. She has been doing this since we got back from a weekend away where we left out one of the large water bowls that has the jug of water on it. We don`t put that out because she plays in it all the time. She even recently knocked over my husbands water glass and started l*****g it off the carpet. I don't know what to do I have even tried filtered water.

  1. my cat does the same thing but topcat likes to drink from dripping water tub sink because its cold i guess he does not drink from his bowl try letting your sink drip a little and have ur cat go to it see what he does also when we go away the cat gets an attitude with us and does stuff like that because hes mad they they dont like water sitting try the dripping water believe me it works but i dont leave it dripping he comes to the bathroom when im there he knows ill turn it on for a couple seconds and he goes right over to it----hope this works for ya its not the bowl

  2. Yeah, try different types of bowls or change the location of her bowl.

My cat only drinks from the dog's water bowl... he won't drink from his own!  : P

  3. instead of using a bowl try using a saucer like a small plate

  4. Its the trip out of town that has her upset. I would try a different bowl (several actually) and put them in different rooms of the house. Your cat has decided that she CAN'T drink from that bowl, much like a child with a favorite shirt suddenly decides that is should never be touched again. Cats love to find things for themselves, so simply put it someplace new, and don't tell her that's where it is. You might also try shallow bowls and tall bowls, to give some variety. And I would start putting the lid down on the toilet and get a mesh cover for the fish bowl. As for the glass attack, I always let my cats have a little of whatever I am drinking (normally water, sometimes ice tea, which he loves! or milk, NEVER alcohol) and both cats really love it, so there you go.

My aunt used to keep a shallow pan in the bathtub under her leaky faucet. That was the ONLY pan the cat would drink out of until I got him and there was no more pan and leaky faucet. My cats have 2 water dishes min, often 3-4 out at a time, and they happily drink from all of them during the day.

  5. Mel is her water dish plastic?  Plastics absorbs all kinds of nasty stuff and the fact that she prefers the porcelin or the glass fish bowl might be saying something .  Also, what do you use to clean it with, maybe she can smell that.  Those are my thoughts. Cats are picky.
