Question:

My Cavalier King Charles has recently had Spinal Surgery. any tips to strengthen his legs?

Ted had 2 slipped disks in his back... he's nearly two. during the surgery the vet things he touched a nerve which effects his left leg. its been 3 weeks since surgery, he's having physio but he needs to strengthen his leg again before he has hydrotherapy.. anyone had the same problem? Thanks

  1. Talk to your dog's physical therapist since he is having physio.  Swimming will help but for some reason your physio doesn't want to do the hydrotherapy until your dog is stronger.  Trust the people that see, treat and know your dog for his best care.  Remember we are strangers on the Internet who have never seen your dog, nor do we know or understand his medical history.


  2. I'm confused.  You say he needs to strengthen his leg before he has hydrotherapy...but...the whole point of hydrotherapy IS to strengthen his legs.  A dog can do hydrotherapy without even doing anything for himself, you can move his legs, etc.  

    Every back surgery the vet I used to work for ever did was followed up by hydrotherapy, even before the dog necessarily had any use of his legs.
