Question:

My Chevy Impala Shuts down for no reason...

I have a 2004 chevy impala. It tends to die while i'm driving it (not in idle) and after it has gotten so hot a certain module or switch has gotten too warm and shuts everything down. It always starts right back up (except for one time I had to have it towed) I have been told that it could be the Torque Converter Solenoid, crank shaft sensor, Ignition module, bad fuel injectors, vehicle speed sensor, I have had it to 2 different chevy dealers, and one transmission shop. None of them could get it to act up for them, none of them could pull up any codes! They're all scratching their heads. Please help. Thanks.

  1. sounds like the fuel pump

  2. It's likely time to dump it. AutoOnInfo.net's detailed reliability/durability vehicle studies suggest that a typical 4-year-old Chevrolet is about as troublesome to own as a typical 30-year-old Honda and a typical 22-year-old Toyota.

  3. this is a long shot but it happened to me once on a 1971 caprice....it would simply shut off while driving & restart immediatly...now there were no computer,s in those day,s but after 2 month,s of searching it turned out to be the ignition switch itself...a small bump in the road & it would die...restart right away[after the switch was reset]...this type of problem would leave no code,s or clue,s on a 2004.....that 71 left me scratching my head for 2 month,s...good luck!

  4. i have a 2000 chevy impala same problem i was told to change the cranksaft sensor and so far everything works fine cost $325
