Question:

My Chinese water dragon is all brown almost except his underbelly, What do I need to do to make it green?

I bought a chinese water dragon from a friend, and I looked at him this morning and he is almost all brown, I feed him crickets and have a heat lamp and a basking lamp i believe its called that i leave on for twelve hours. Anything I can do to get him green again?

  2. He could be stressed from his new environment or he could be getting ready to shed. Please buy a few books or read up Chinese water dragon care on the internet. They are beautiful animals but have to be taken care of properly.

He could be brown from stress of moving or he is getting ready to shed.  It's important to know exactly what your temperatures are.  They will darken in color when too cold.  Use a digital probe thermometer to measure basking area temps.  Do you have a reptile UVB light?  It must be within 12 inches of the basking.  Check here for complete info:

  5. He's about to shed....yes check your temp, but also check the humidity. Keep it above 70...approx 80 %. (fyi heat lamp is basking lamp). Don't worry too much. If he stops eating and all type of activities, then consult a vet. You should be fine tho.
