Also- sometimes i wear slightly low cut tops so that it shows that slight amount of cleavage that looks good but doesnt make you look like a whhore. they yell at me to put my shirt up...i mean wat the heck? its rlly not a big deal and i am honestly telling u the truth. the rest of my family thinks i dress pretty without being at all S****y. i know they r my parents and r suposed to be protective of me...but they should just except the way i dress! i dont look like a sllut or anything because i worry about that stuff too, but i dont want to dress ugly. i am asking youu teens and moms! Do you agree with me or my parents? Be honest andd explain why! Thanks<3

  1. Well, it's hard to tell what you mean by slightly tight jeans. What you think is slightly tight could really look like something a stripper wears. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that they are just the normal girly jeans that most girls your age wear. If that's the case, they're fine. But I agree with your mom that you should not be showing cleavage at your age. Cleavage doesn't look good at your age, it looks S****y. There are lots of different styles for girls your age that won't make you look cheap. How about some camis or fitted (but not skin tight) tees? There are plenty of fashion tops that don't show cleavage, either. So I'm going to go 50/50 on this one - I'm with you on the jeans, but I'm with your parents on the shirts.

  2. Buy some cute camis to wear under your lower cut shirts. At 14, showing cleavage is considered S****y. If you have jeans that fit you perfectly, and aren't too baggy or too tight, you should buy more pants in that size. I don't understand why girls always want to wear super tight jeans, I find that kind of thing uncomfortable.

You should try reading some fashion magazines like Seventeen, which give examples of sever different styles that are appropriate for your age group.

  3. if your parents have a problem with the way that you dress, then why do they keep buying you the clothes!?... surely you dont have a job to pay for them.

at 14 I do think it is inappropriate to be showing off clevage, but its not expected to be wearing a turtle neck either.

Sounds to me like you and your parents need to start making compromises...

Or you need to start buying your own clothes so then they can't say anything.

  4. I tend to agree with your parents.

I am a mother of teenage boys and I notice how all the 14,15,16 year old girls are dressing and it makes me cringe. Girls knock on my door for my boys all the time and almost every one of them has cleavage showing. They probably think like you do, that it's just a little bit and it doesn't look S****y. But I beg to differ. If she is letting her b***s show, I assume she wants my boys to see it. And that makes me wonder what else she would want my buys to do.

I see your moms point. She doesn't want people to think her daughter is a tramp, and face it, some people ARE going to think you're a tramp if you have on tight jeans and cleavage showing.

I also understand that you want to be fashionable, but from other points of view (like the mothers of the teenage boys), you might be perceived as tramp if your "big butt" is taking all the attention and/or you went out of your way to make a point to have cleavage.

I learned a good rule of thumb a long time ago and I still believe it holds true. Only let one part of your body get attention. If your pants are a little tight an your butt is looking pretty noticeable today, pull the shirt up and cover up your cleavage. If you want to wear short shorts, don't ear a skimpy little tank top.

I think if you follow this rule, you can avoid having people think you are S****y, and maybe your parents will be less inclined to nag you so much.

  5. I think I agree with you. I do understand that at 14, it's very important not to look really different or stand out. You want to wear the same fashions as everyone else. When my daughter was your age, I let her choose her own clothes, with the understanding that I would not pay for anything that would not meet her school's dress code. (Truthfully, I think dress codes discriminate against girls, but that's another issue). There were times when I had to bite my tongue as she walked out the door, but I knew it would do no good to make her change her clothes. The girls whose mothers did that simply brought other clothes to school and changed there. So I let her wear what she wanted. Usually if it was inappropriate, someone at school would tell her, and she listened to them. The other thing to remember is that fashions change quickly. Tight pants and short skirts don't stay "in" forever. Time usually makes this problem a non-issue.

  6. I don't have any problems with what you describe. Many on yahoo are ultra conservative and must all live in the bible belt. I agree with Carrie about only showing off 1 bodypart. So if you are wearing tight jeans, then the top shouldn't be tight. If you wear a short dress then it shouldn't be backless too. This is a good guideline for any age and I still abide by it. I have no issues with clevage. At 14 I wore a size 34C so that is exactly the size these tops are made for.

  7. I completely agree with your parents. Your not wearing anything bad. And i would allow it if you were 16+ but your not. The clothing your describing isn't ok for a 14 yr old.

  8. At 14, what you describe is definatly inappropriate. Its not that the clothes are really that bad, its that they are not age appropriate for you. This would be fine if you were older like 18. 19 or even 17. But NOT at 14.

  9. if you are showing cleavage and middrift, its inappropriate.

i think your parents are right. i just dont' understand why they are buying you things they don't want you to wear.
