Question:

My Corn's eyes went blue and I thought he was shedding. Now, his eyes are black again and he hasn't shed. Why?

I've had my Juvenile Corn Snake for about 5 and a half weeks and he has already shed once, (although I couldn't really observe the cycle as it had already started when I bought him).

However, about four days ago I noticed that his eyes had gone a milky blue colour, one of the most obvious signs of shedding; I didn't notice that the colour of his scales had dimmed because he is anerythristic (black and white) so it's quite hard to spot when it happens.

Now, his eyes are black again but he still hasn't shed. Why is this? Was he ever really shedding in the first place?

Please help! I'm really confused as this is my first snake.

Thanks in advance for any answers :)

  1. This is normal- they eyes clear again before it sheds.

    Shedding is imminent.

Make sure the snake has access to moisture, and it should be fine.

  2. Leave him alone he is shedding he might of just lost some of his old skin he might be doing the rest.

  3. Yes Sweetie, no need to panic.  This is quite normal.  The eyes will cloud and often return to normal shortly before the shed.  He should begin to peel out of his skin in the next 4-7 days.

Be sure he has a rough hide, or ceramic limb/perch to catch his skin on as he sheds.  Increase the moisture in his habitat about 10%, and provide a large ceramic crock for soaking.

Then just stand back, and let nature takes its course.  He knows what to do, and with proper moisture, he'll have a complete shed.

Enjoy your pet, and I hope this has been helpful.

  4. Yeah he will still be shedding, their eyes usually return to normal a few days before shedding so he will shed soon :) That confused me when my corn snake shed too haha, but yeah he's still shedding :)

  5. They will do that. The eyes will become blued, then normal or almost normal, and then they will shed.
