She's in italy going to college on the study abroad program. She wants to stay there. She loves it. Can anyone provide me with some advice to give to her on how she can find a job and stay there? What is the process? (as far as the Visa goes). She says she is trying to find a Nanny job - which she'd be great at as she has experience - but what other resources should she look into?

  1. She needs to find the "questura" in the province where she lives they should be able to give her a work visa or "permesso di soggiorno". She also needs this if she is flying with an american airline. You cannot buy a ticket to leave Italy and then return there unless you have another ticket to leave Italy within 3 months. I also live in Italy and before I had my permesso to stay and tried to fly to the United States and return to Italy they didn't let me board the flight. This happened more than once. It becomes very expensive to buy 2 round trip tickets! If it's with a European airline they tend not to care about Italy's law that if you do not have permission to stay you have to leave Italy withing 3 months. If you need me I may be able to help in some of these questions. I speak both languages.

  2. there are plenty of au pair agencies, google them and contact.
