I know it's supposed to be different but the number doesn't look right..It says fe80::213:fe76=71a%4

Is that the correct number? This is the reason why I can't get on Xbox Live.

  1. that is a mac address. it is an address that marks your network card. Like a serial number or a proper name. It has nothing to do with your ip address unless you have been messing around in your settings somehow. On which case you may have told your connection to only work with a specific mac address, and then punched it in wrong maybe.

  2. Your IP address is a series of numbers with periods inbetween the numbers. Your DNS is a name that refers to the IP address. The default DNS name is probably the MAC address of the piece of equipment. Every network device has its own unique MAC address. fe80::213:fe76=71a%4 is probably the MAC address of the device, this is definately not an IP address.

  3. It's normal for the IP address and DNS addresses to be on different subnets.  Not normal to have a MAC address (which you are seeing).  Talk with your ISP and get their DNS addresses, or look in your router - it will tell you.
