My DSL connection keeps getting disconnected about every 10 minutes or so?

I have an Actiontec GT-701-WG modem. Would getting a different modem make my connection more stable in keeping speed and connection?

I read in a website that having call waiting option enabled would cause connection issues. Is this true? How can I make my DSL be more stable? My modem also gets pretty warm. Would the temperature affect speed and connection?I usually can get the speed back to normal by unpluging the power cord from modem and pluging it back in after a minute. Another question I have is whether losing the a DSL connection during the rain is normal? I do lose the connection during the rain but also when there is no rain. Thanks for any information.

  1. Hey,

I had very similar issues with my DSL modem a few months ago, my modem was maybe 2 to 2.5 years old when I started noticing my modem disconecting randomly.

At first they would be spaced out months at a time, but then it started getting more frequent, happening several times in a week. And then finally, happening several times in an hour until finally it no longer connected for even more then a few seconds.

You may have the onset of a dying modem,

Call and complain to your service provider if they provided you with your modem. (If it came free with your service, it will likely be free to replace. This however raises other questions about buisness practices.)

These modems havent been arround for very long yet, and thus, have not been tested for longterm use. Newer models however appear to have a more solid build from what I have seen, but as for their life spans we have yet to see.

    Hope this helps people out,
