I got DSL about two weeks ago and Its only worked twice after help from tech support. Besides those two brief moments of it working I haven't had internet. When the technician came my line test was fine but my internet still doesn't work. Every time I try and use it either it doesn't work at all or I get the limited or no connectivity. I have the modem 7500 and I still have Dial up in the house. Any suggestions for solving this problem.

  1. I've seen even the Set-up Techies miss this one:

In the network you have to tell it to never dial-up.

    Browser > Tools > Internet Connections >

    tab Connections >

    select Never Dial-Up a Connection

button Lan Settings > select Automatically detect settings

By not making these changes, your problem will continue, as the Network is getting mixed signals as to how to connect.

    Also:  Dump the dial-up.

And why haven't you canceled the dial-up???

DSL is super fast in comparison.

You'll never go back to dial-up, guaranteed!

  2. possible may be from having dial up..

i'd cancel it and stick with dsl

call verizon up again and complain about it, act like you are very angry and about to cancel their serivce..

usually they can get someone over within the week for free

  3. I would recommend running a local network speed test using Speed Meter Pro:  http://www.purenetworks.com/product/spee...

Don't be confused by the name "Speed Meter Pro", however, because the local network speed scan tests your local network speed between two PCs on your network - in essence, it doesn't limit the information you want to just upload and download speed for one computer to the internet. Speed Meter Pro allows you to see how changes to your network can affect its performance. For example, if you're experiencing slow network speeds between a wireless laptop and another computer, you can move your laptop to a different location in your home or office and test again to see if that improves its network connectivity speed to other devices.

It also monitors the performance of your favorite websites. You can enter up to four website addresses and instantly see if the website is currently responding normally, is slow, or is unavailable. If you are visiting a website that is performing slowly you can determine if the performance issue is due to your network or the website’s server. You can also use the Website Watch List to determine if the Internet is experiencing overall slowness by looking at the performance of all the websites in your list. If they are all indicating a slow response and your connection to the Internet is working properly, it’s a safe assumption that there is overall slowing on the Internet.

After downloading and installing the free 7-day trial, Speed Meter Pro will quickly identify slowdowns and pinpoint issues on your local network, your wireless router or Internet connection that affect performance; then, pro-actively monitors your network to detect issues that need immediate attention. Hope this helps!

  4. Use the USB cable to connect instead. I switched from using the Ethernet cable to the USB cable and my DSL has worked 10 times better and fast. Try it will solve the problem trust me Ethernet cables are bad at connecting and always have problems.
