    Its way past its retirement.


  2. Yup, I agree, trying to repair it will cost as much as a decent upconverting player.  

    And you are wasting your $$$$ getting a cleaning kit, 95% of all DVD repairs involve re-aligning the laser assembly, over time they go off alignment and will not track any DVD's.

  3. Toss it.  They have come down in price so much in seven years you won't believe it.  You should be able to find one for $ 30.00, and chances are it will be better than your old one was when it was new.
