My DVR is erasing recordings right after they finish. Can anyone tell me why and how to fix it?

It's happened 5 times. It's only happened during the primetime hours. But i'll record something, see it recording, even watch it sometimes, but after the recording finishes i go to the list to watch it and it's not there. It's happened on shows like So you think you can dance, and last comicstanding, and the mole. These are on the HDTV channels, and has only recently happened. Is there any reason for this?

Are you running out of storage space?  I know we have a huge backlog of programs on our DVR, and have them protected so they don't get deleted.  Unfortunately this also means that sometimes when the DVR wants to record a new show, it deletes something that it just finished recording to make room.

Remember, HD programs require roughly 6x the space than a non-HD program.  In some cases, we've told our DVR to only record the non-HD version if we don't care about the quality as much.  That way it doesn't take up as much space.  For instance, recording the nightly news - who cares if it's in HD?  All they do for "HD" is just put a colored border on the sides of the screen that say "HD" on it, while using the same old non-HD feed in the middle.
