it is not the spark advance coils and the local Honda dealer has no idea what is wrong with it. they cleaned the carbs and jets and bowls and it is getting gas, and spark. It just won't run past 2000 RPM's . Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

  1. AT some point the carbs just need replacing.  They are really unreliable technology.  That's why the car world moved away towards Fuel INjections.

    Good Luck...

  2. It sounds like the spark advance. Another thing would be the main jets in the carbs or the float bowl level being way off. Fuel starvation from clogged screens in the tank could cause that.

He should also check the cam timing. If the cam chain got too loose it could have jumped a notch.

  3. Is it getting air?  Check the air filter.  Also make sure the choke k**b or lever works -- that it "unchokes."

Also -- check the oil level in the engine.  Too much, in my motorcycle, will cause it to run badly.  Might be the same for yours too.

  4. Contact Magna Owners of Texas (owners club).  Those guys know more about Magnas than Honda does.
