We took her last week to the ER and the DR that seen her said we could give her Childrens Tylenol Cold Medicine and give her 1/2 tsp.

But, I have heard about the recalls and such and I've heard you arent supposed to give children under 1 cold medicines. However, if this is the case, why would the DR have told me it was OK to give it to her? She is 10 months old. Has anyone else ever gave there children Childrens Cold medicine before they were 1?

  1. I have when my pediatrician advised it. They have different dosages for little ones, and he's fine.

A suggestion though...I know I hated giving my kids medicine. They sell these things called Shower Soothers. I would buy some of those and use them with my kids. You just put the disc into the hot shower and it releases vapors with the steam. I would take my little one in there and read a story to him while we sat in the bathroom with the shower running. That Johnson and Johnson Vapor bath works well too. I also used the liquid Vicks with a humidifier when he got really bad.

She should be fine, I wouldn't think a doctor would suggest giving it to her unless she could actually get some relief. Best wishes to you, hope she gets better soon!

  2. I did a little before mine was a year.  As long as you don't give to much it should be ok.  If it helps her sleep at night just give it at night.

  3. Ive given my son, who has stomach problems, generic tylenol and motion. Ive never had a problem with either and hes been totally fine. Hes 7 months now and has four teeth, which is why we gave him the medicine. He was just in soo much pain and nothing else worked. The motrin worked miracles and Ive heard is less dangerous. I think as long as you follow all the directions you will be ok. Make sure you know the max amount you can  give them in 24 hours and how long you should wait between doses. I keep a little paper on the counter with the time and amount I gave him so I make sure I dont accidently give him too much. Like I said, hes been fine!
