It has a Celeron processor in it, could that be the cause of it running so slow. The laptop is approximately 5 years old.

  1. The best you can do without directly taking things out of the system or formatting your hard drive would be to defrag it. Defrag is short for defragment, and it's our way of cleaning up after vista's sloppyass file system :)

You didn't specify which operating system you have, so all I can suggest is that you search for "defrag".

You could also try uninstalling all of the programs that you don't use. Don't just delete the files if there's an uninstaller program you can run.

As a last resort, of course, you could simply put all the files you need onto an external hard drive or a DVD and get your hard drive wiped clean at a local computer store. make sure they offer to reinstall windows on it though! having an OS is a good thing ;)

  2. Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

You can download and scan your computer for free.

  3. Though a five-year-old laptop with a celeron isn't going to be your fastest machine, what you have to ask yourself is if it's running slower than it used to.  Unless there's a hardware issue, this shouldn't be.

As someone else mentioned, if your drives need defragmentation, do that as a start. Also check which services are running in your operating system and disable the ones you don't need.  Perhaps you have malware running all the time that takes up your resources.

You could also just plain be trying to do too much. A computer that old with a processor of that type can't run too many tasks at the same time too quickly.

It will help improve your system performance without expensive hardware upgrades.

  5. I found a great utility that helps substantially....

    www.ccleaner.com

    Download & install this.

2nd best thing is.... DEFRAG! This is under start--> programs--> accessories--> system tools--> defrag

And finally, the BEST thing you can do for your laptop is to purchase additional RAM. Those other 2 will speed it up, but ram will greatly improve the speed
