Question:

My DirecTV R15 DVR won't record because of an annoying pause that stalls the DVR.?

When I want to record something, it's totally fine if I'm watching the show at the same time, but when it's recording when my TV is off, there's a pause and black screen that comes up. I have to press the red reset button and wait for a long while for it to start again.

Only things I've tried is pressing the red reset button and doing the hard boot by pressing down and rec on the machine itself to erase all the recordings. But it still happens.

Anyone know how to fix it? Think that there's no fix and I'll just have to buy another or have to upgrade to HD?

Any info pertaining to any of this is greatly appreciated. Thanks for answering.

  1. That's a software issue and if you had reformat the ahrd drive so many time the problem can get worst.... I'll recommend that you call Directv and ask of a repalcement rceiver and explained what you have done before.... of course if you have their warranty plan if not get another one!!

make sure if you buy one is R16!!

I hope you do it soon ...

  2. R15 recently had a software upgrade;  Software upgrade schedule depends on the state. It usually correct any potential or existing problems, better yet get the new HR20 or the HR21! Check with directv they may have something for you.

  3. sometimes a software upgrade can cause this because it'll unintentionally cause a bug in the software.

If you call 1-800-531-5000 you can ask them if there's a known issue and how to fix it. Sometimes there's a software fix in the works so they'll tell you to just wait it out. That's because even if you get a new receiver it's likely to c**p out on you once you get the new software download. The other options may be to go through some crazy troubleshooting, even going so far as to format your hard drive (meaning you lose all of your recorded programming).
