My endocrinologist said I have Primary Hypogonadism, but said that my brain isn't telling my testes to create enough hormone to tell them to create Testosterone , which is Secondary Hypogonadism.

The difference between the two is the difference between fertility, and sexual functionality. Which do I have.

  1. All Right, this is a little complicated. Let me try to break it down

Hypogonadism is  a failure of the testicles to function, either due to lack of stimulus by the hypothalamus gland, OR the testicles inability to use the hormones secreted by the brain. The effect is the same, but one can be fixed, the other cannot.

The testicles have two functions; provide the male s*x hormones (androgens) and produce the sperm cells for reproduction. Depending on what is happening, it sounds like you have a deficiency of LH or FsH which is causing your testicles to not mature. If they do not mature, there will be no sperm production. Essentially he is telling you there are two issues going on with one cause. Assuming the LH is replaced with synthetic hormones, your testicles will mature, the testosterone will become normal and you will go through puberty and produce sperm cells and be fertile. Thats one scenario.

The other scenario is that there is no sperm production but normal hormones, so you grow up, shave and ejaculate normally, but there is no sperm in your s***n and you are sterile.

The only way to tell if you are fertile is to have your s***n tested once you have established puberty and s***n production.

  2. umm, hard to tell, but if you can have kids, then that's what you have. sorry, it's hard to tell.

  3. You might want to get a second opinion, since your doctor wasn't exactly a fountain of information.

I'm not familiar with your condition, but I do know that your doctor should definitely have given you more info on this condition, and you have a right to know.

Why don't you simply type in both terms on your browser and see what information there is on the internet?

    Good luck to you.

  4. Get a second opinion.
