For a month my Doctor thought he was feeling my Daughter's head at my examinations and he said she was head down. Well my last appt like 4 days before I delivered he didn't feel her head so he thought she could have been turned. He wanted to get an ultrasound but I had the baby before that day. Well my water broke and I went into the hospital and they said she was breech so now my daughter is in a Pavlik harness and she had hip displaysia. If the harness don't work after 3 months, she might have to go into a boby cast. Should I be mad at my OB??? I could have known earlier my daughter could have been turned or we could have caught how her legs were all funny in there and she would never be in this Harness. I can't dress her up or put anything but a onesie on her. She seems miserable all harnessed up. I am very sad.

  1. I'm sorry your baby has to wear that harness.  I can't imagine how difficult that must be for you and your baby!

But I don't think it's your doctor's fault she has hip dysplasia.  It may have been caused by her breech position, but it may have happened even if she was not breech.

I don't believe there is anything that could have been done before she was born to prevent the hip dysplasia.

Good Luck, I hope the harness works quickly and you can avoid more intense treatment!

  2. i don't feel it is the OB's fault. they had suspicions that the baby turned and scheduled an ultrasound to check. unfortunately, you went into labor before the test could be completed. that isn't something they could have controlled. best wishes for a full recovery for your daughter.

  3. Oh bless, poor wee thing. Unfortunately, OBGYN science isn't always a sure fire thing without an ultrasound as it's all about feeling. But it's perfectly normal for you to feel angry with you OB!

My husband was born with Perthes Disease (something that is hereditary so we are having to watch our son for any signs of it as they don't test for it). He had callipers for 5 years after having splints and plaster until he was 4. He defied medics though and went on to be a wrestler!!! So try not to worry-you're wee girl is still very young and will be fine.

  4. i would talk to the ob it is his fault shes in the harness not yours
