I am finding out this is a pretty common problem. I've been on tramadol, flexeril ,darvocet, naproxin, ect.... NONE OF WHICH WORK. i'm young (25) but have had a series of some problems. My current doctor told me that i had a pain perception problem. Only for me to go to the ER for the same problem i had discussed with him and find that i had torn cartilage in my chest which is very painful! They didn't prescribe me anything either. I currently have a condition with me knee where some days i can't even walk. Its swollen and painful even when i'm not standing on it. HORRIBLE excruciating pain and i can't even call my doctor because he will most likely not even order tests to find out what the problem. I've never been addicted to any drugs. i've had percocets after my 3 c-sections and when they were gone i was FINE!!! I would be willing to have my pills counted, urine tested, anything just to be able to function and live my every day life. ANYONE have any suggestions? is this a lawsuit in the making? my dr knows i was a former exotic dancer and i believe he is thinking i'm automatic drug adict because of it. I'm out of work because of these problems... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I feel for you. I will be 28 years old come October. I have Endometriosis which is extremely painful and has caused a whirlwind of health problems for me. I have had pain since I was a teen, but I usually just sucked up the pain. It got extremely worse over the years. It began getting unbearable when I was around 21 and even worse by 23. During this time I have gone through a ton of stuff when it has come to doctors.

Trust me.. I have been discriminated in every way you can imagine when it has come to getting any kind of relief. So I know how it is.

Pain Meds are extremely hard to get prescribed due to the problems going on with people selling and abusing them.. and because some doctors do not want to deal with the DEA.

The best thing for you to do is what the other reply suggested. Find a reliable Pain Management doctor who specializes in managing the pain. Most Primary Care doctors no longer prescribed pain relief for long term problems.

I wish you lots of luck with this!!

    hugs!

  2. If you have a reason, as in blood tests, x-ray, MRI results, that point to a underlying problem, they cannot refuse to prescribe the correct treatment. No point in phoning your Doctor, if you have a inflamed knee, you need to 'see' the Doctor and get it checked out. Best of Luck

  3. Hiya - I just wanted to say that I understand where you're coming from and feel your frustrations.

I think you must be from the US (I'm in Scotland, UK) so I don't understand your system enough to give advice but wanted to lend my ear if you ever need it - I too dream of being given decent pain meds just to be able to live half-normally!

Hope something changes for you soon, doll.

    xx

  4. Primary care doctors are not who you need to see. Please see a pain management specialist. There have been so many people who have abused the system to obtain pain meds that they have ruined it for people like you. PCP's are to worried to write for narcotics. I work for a pain management doctor and I hear it all the time.

Check out this site to locate a PMR doctor near you. Good Luck!

  5. There are doctors who specialize in pain management.  You should try to see one or at least get a referral from your primary care physician (if you have an HMO)

Whatever the case, if you tell your doctor that you are in pain and he does nothing to help, he's a jerk.  He won't even run tests on your leg?  You need to fire him and get another doctor.  Make sure when you pick out your doctor that he is an MD (not MDO or anything) and make sure that he is accredited with the board.

    I hope you feel better!
