I have a labrador retriever and I have a big family of 6. We all love my dog a lot and we all give him attention and he lives in a very comfortable loving home. What I cant figure out is why my lab keeps following my mom everywhere. No one else but her. He follows her to the bathroom, and it actually starts to get on my mom's nerves. How come my dog follows my mom and not anyone else? :(

  1. Does she spend more time at home or with the dog than any one else? Is she the one who feeds the dog? Walks the dog most of the time? Grooms the dog? Dogs tend to bond most to their primary caretaker.

If you and your mom want to change the dog's behavior, she needs to become less involved in his daily care and become a bit more emotionally distant and you need to do more of his daily care and spend more time with him.

  2. A lot of dogs choose their one special person.  This is usually, but not always the one that is the primary caregiver, or who the dog sees as the leader of the pack.  It does not mean that the dog does not care for anyone else in the house.  Just that this person is the one he/she looks to for guidance.

Although sometimes a dog chooses his person for no apparent reason.   It is what it is.

  3. Maybe she was the first one to show it affection, and if she does all the feeding of your dog and giving him water that coud be another reason. Sometimes its good that they dont. One of our dogs follows me around everyhwere and sometimes ita nnoying, but it is good that they are loyal. Maybe you should try playing with him more. :)

  4. u have 2 bond and train your dog tricks(sit, lie down, stay, and more).

  5. its the same exact thing with my dog, he follows my mom everywhere! a dog always choses a "pack leader", the one person they follow or obey. Does your mom tend to be more strict? dogs like having rules and being able to follow them.
