  1. There is a short in the dryer or in the line to the dryer.  Since it is 220 you should not attempt to fix it.  Call a repairman for the dryer as it is more likely the problem.  You might consider that if the dryer is real old it would be cheaper to just replace it.  With the new energy efficient dryers you can pay for the cost of the new dryer with the savings on electricity.  This is for electric dryers.  If it is gas it is likely 110 power so you should first plug the dryer into another circuit to see it it blows that breaker.  That will eliminate the electric wiring in the house.  Then the replace/fix criteria also applies.

  2. could be a bad breaker. once a breaker trips, they become easier and easier to trip

  3. The heating coils could have sagged or broken off and shorted to the drier body.

Depending on the design, it may be easy or hard to get to the heating coils to visually check that out.  Replacing said coil shouldn't be too difficult or expensive.

  4. your problem is most likely a short in the drier, since you tripped it a few times don't keep trying ,you could start a fire   .Call a repairman and repair or replace.  circuit breakers have a long life and are tested to trip at the factory for hundreds of operations at random from each lot.
